Makeup for Glasses Wearers: How to Make Your Eyes Stand Out

Glasses change the way your makeup is seen. Depending on your prescription, your lenses can magnify, minimise or simply frame your eyes differently — and the frames themselves sit exactly where smudging shows most. With a few adjustments, your glasses become part of the look rather than a hurdle in front of it.

If You Are Short-Sighted (Minus Lenses)

Minus lenses make the eyes look slightly smaller, so the aim is to open them up:

  • Brighten the waterline with a white or nude liner to make the eyes look wider instantly.
  • Apply mascara to both the upper and lower lashes — the extra definition compensates for the shrinking effect of the lenses.
  • Place a light eyeshadow shade in the inner corner with the Precision Eye Detail Brush to lift and open the eye.
  • Keep the brows well defined with the Eyebrow Brush — the frames draw attention upward, so polished brows carry the look.

If You Are Long-Sighted (Plus Lenses)

Plus lenses magnify everything, which is a gift and a challenge at once:

  • Keep the eyeshadow subtle. Whatever you apply will be amplified, so soft, neutral shades are your friend.
  • Use eye primer under every shadow. Magnifying lenses show creasing before anyone else notices it.
  • Choose waterproof mascara. The lenses sit close to the lashes, and smudge-proof formula avoids marks on the inside of the lens.

Stop Foundation Smudging on Your Frames

The nose bridge is where foundation transfers to your glasses. Set that strip of skin thoroughly with the Large Powder Brush, and avoid heavy highlighter down the bridge of the nose — it both transfers and magnifies shine.

Palettes That Work With Frames

Final Word

Glasses are an accessory — let your makeup work with them, not against them. Adjust the intensity to your prescription, define the brows, and set the bridge. The result is a look that is framed, polished and unmistakably yours.
